It symbolized the perfect duality between man and woman, representing the Sun and the Moon.

Before the union, couples were lovingly prepared with healing plants to purify and bless them—uniting their hearts, bodies, minds, and spirits in eternal harmony. A spiritual wedding was considered unbreakable by human words or decisions, as it was founded on pure, sincere, and sacred love. Infidelity, adultery, or fornication were viewed as serious moral transgressions. Breaking such a vow was believed to bring misfortune, illness, or worse, as divine punishment from the spiritual guardians.

This union called upon the energy of the three worlds: the heavens (Hanan Pacha), the earthly realm (Kay Pacha), and the underworld (Uku Pacha).
